Overview of Responsibilities: Supervises and coordinates MSGCUís mortgage consultants including activities related to sales and origination in the department and within the branch network. Oversees mortgage loan origination, drives the sales pipeline, and ensures achievement of production metrics. Ensures financial objectives and strategic and institutional growth goals are met in accordance with MSGCUís policies and state and federal government regulations, and in alignment with our desired member experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivers a superior member experience by effectively supervising the mortgage consultants and ensuring a consistent approach to sales, service, member satisfaction, operational and people management. †

  • Drives Results by assisting team with the development and maintenance of strong relationships with branches, realtors, builders, and other external sources in order to foster long term referral sources. Educates team regarding sales opportunities within market and coaches to identify opportunities to cross-sell MSGCU products and services in order to establish and/or broaden member relationships.†

  • Applies knowledge of mortgage business and the market to advance MSGCUís goals. Monitors, understands, and informs Mortgage Production Manager of competitor positions within market region, including mortgage strategy, product offering, and performance. Recommends strategies that mitigate impact from competitors.

  • Drives engagement by aligning individual goals with organizational objectives and creating a healthy environment where team members are inspired to do their best and achieve results. Holds self and team accountable to meet commitments and achieve goals. Monitors performance and takes corrective action as necessary when objectives are not attained and conducts accurate and straight forward performance evaluations.

  • Directs teamís work by providing clear direction, removing obstacles, delegating, and empowering team members to make decisions within their area of responsibility. †

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations related to sales and origination; managing workflows and pipelines to achieve department goals and production metrics by scheduling and directing activities to the production team.

  • Reviews, discusses, and assists in troubleshooting complex financing situations and serves as a back-up originator during high volume, vacations, etc.

  • Optimizes work processes by assisting with development of mortgage lending policies, procedures, goals, and objectives as needed. Reviews mortgage software updates and provides training to team members.

  • Proactively reviews and addresses compliance of regulatory and secondary market investor changes related to loan origination, processing, and assisting with third party quality control audits and timely responses.

  • Attracts, selects, develops, and retains a top team of Mortgage Consultants who achieve defined individual and team objectives.

Essential Preparation, Training, and Experience:†††

  • Associateís degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience; and

  • 2 years of increasing responsibility and/or experience within a financial institution to gain the necessary background to manage mortgage lending areas and interact effectively with employees and members.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with at least 2 years of supervisory experience and at least 4 years of experience as an originator.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of lending policies and procedures to coordinate the daily activities of the mortgage production team and respond to employee and member questions.

  • Broad knowledge of the entire mortgage lending process, to include mortgage processing, underwriting, closing, servicing, secondary marketing (rates, fees, pricing, valuations, etc.).

  • Strong background in FNMA, FHLMC, and FHA guidelines, compliance and quality assurance.

  • Highly motivated and able to act independently.

  • Thorough understanding of the credit union's lending policies and guidelines, as well as specific loan programs, qualifications, etc.

  • A high level of analytical skill to assure compliance with regulatory and corporate policy and procedure.

  • High level of reasoning and mathematical ability including the ability to review and analyze tax returns.

  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet programs, and Mortgage related software.

  • Strong time management skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and branch location environment with little discomfort from noise, extreme temperature, dust, or other factors.

  • Required to travel throughout MSGCU's service area as business needs require.

  • Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, such as robbery. Receives detailed instructions and security procedures on an annual basis to minimize risk.

  • This work involves sitting most of the time with brief periods of walking or standing and may occasionally require lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.

  • Normal working hours will be MSGCUís standard branch and administrative office hours of operation, however, periodic weekends and/or before/after normal office hours will be required.
